In its fourth year, Broward College Speaker Series continues to feature notable speakers from a variety of backgrounds to educate and enlighten the community on a variety of topics. From current events in our nation, to the study behind character traits that determine success, this year’s selected speakers will bring their personal perspectives on the world around us. The final speaker of the 2017 series is Angela Duckworth, a professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, co-founder of the Character Lab and a TED Talks phenomenon. Her first book, Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, was an immediate New York Times bestseller. Her speech will be titled True Grit: The Science of Success. Who succeeds in life? Peplowski is the leading clarinetist in jazz today and has performed with a litany of who’s who of the jazz world. Continuing the celebration of Frank Sinatra’s 100th year, jazz vocalist Johnny Rogers joins forces with vocalist David Pruyn and the South Florida Jazz Orchestra. Music for this exciting season closer will include the jazz favorites of Frank Sinatra, nicknamed “Ol’ Blue Eyes,” and Mel Tormé, known as “The Velvet Fog”. The South Florida Jazz Orchestra, led by Chuck Bergeron, is a modern Big Band comprised of some of the best jazz musicians, studio musicians, and Jazz educators in the southeast.
