Spring Camp at Miami Seaquarium Highlights Park’s Mission to Educate and Inspire Students

Springtime brings excitement to Miami Seaquarium with the return of spring camp. Pirates are coming to this year’s spring camp with the theme “Pirates Take Over.” The park’s spring camp program offers students from kindergarten to high school the opportunity to learn about environmental issues facing our planet including pollution, invasive species, water conservation, habitat destruction, and endangered species. The week long camp includes one marine mammal show a day, at least one animal interaction a day, educational treasure hunts and pirate myths, Salty’s Pirate Playground, arts and crafts, interactive games and experiments, and much more. Spring camp will take place April 10-14, 2017 for campers’ ages 5 to 18 years. Spring Camp registration is now available online at www.miamiseaquarium.com/camp. Save money with the Early Bird rate of $175 by registering online before March 17. After March 17, the pre-registration camp price of $195 applies until April 7. Bunnypalooza at Miami Seaquarium on Easter Weekend

Easter Weekend gets underway at Miami Seaquarium with “BunnyPalooza”, from Friday, April 14 to Easter Sunday, April 16. To commemorate Earth Day, Miami Seaquarium is hosting “Four Days, Four Events, For Earth” on April 20 – 23, 2017. In efforts to inspire and educate guests about ocean and marine life conservation, the park’s Earth Day celebration will feature a guest lecture, happy hour, a mini film festival, Lionfish derby, a beach clean-up, and much more. In addition to “Four Days, Four Events, For Earth,” Miami Seaquarium will offer 50 percent off admission on Earth Day, April 22, when purchasing ticket online using promo code “earthday” at www.miamiseaquarium.com/offers. The happy hour will include a 30 minute guest lecture by Joe Wasilewski, a Wildlife Biologist and current Vice-President of Jadora International LLC. He will be discussing his work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, followed by a Q&A session. Wine, beer and appetizers will be served. Happy hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the lecture will begin at 6:00 p.m. Pricing for this event is free. Cash only donations for drink tickets and cups will be accepted.

Beneath the Waves is a global platform for ocean conservation, education, and discovery. Their mission is to raise awareness regarding critical marine issues, foster the advancement of science, and promote the protection of our oceans. Mini Film Festival by the Sea will be free of charge.

In efforts to raise awareness on the Lionfish invasion destroying local reefs and native creatures in the Caribbean and Atlantic Ocean, Miami Seaquarium is hosting a Lionfish Derby. The daylong derby invites fisherman to volunteer to catch lionfish and bring them back to Miami Seaquarium for scoring, data collection, and a community picnic. Cash prizes will be granted to the winners placing in the following categories: Most, largest and smallest. During the Derby, the lionfish will be cooked by community chefs. Registration for fisherman is free. While contestants are out fishing, Miami Seaquarium will host a community picnic filled with South Florida marine science and conservation vendors and workshops, including Lionfish jewelry making, music, and food! These events are important in 4earth Lionfish Derby will educate participants about the damage lionfish are causing, familiarizing the public on safe lionfish handling and increasing participation in lionfish control efforts. Admission to the community picnic is included with a Miami Seaquarium general admission ticket.
