Nova Southeastern University will host a series of events focused around World War I and America. This series of programs and exhibit are part of World War I and America, a two-year national initiative of the Library of America presented in partnership with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, the National World War I Museum and Memorial, and other organizations. The events are as follows: World War I and America: Told by the Americans Who Lived It NSU Associate Professor, Timothy Dixon, J.D., leads a 7-week reading and discussion series from 2-3 p.m. on March 21 and 28, April 4, 11, 18, and 25, and May 2 in room 2046. Afterschool Adventures! S.T.E.M. FUN Grades 1-5 Explore innovations of WWI along with other inventions that shaped history on Tuesday, March 28 from 4-5 p.m. in room 1017. World War I and America: A Day in the Life of an American Doughboy Meet reenactors in authentic uniforms and supplies and learn about the life of an American Doughboy on the front lines during WWI on Saturday, April 1 from 1-3 p.m. in room 2053. Finding Your World War I Ancestor Find information on your Doughboy ancestor using U.S. Draft Registration cards, military records, and burial and prisoner of war records on Sunday, April 2 from 2-4 p.m. in room 2053. Through a Lens: World War I in Film Learn how the depiction of WWI in film has changed in the past century. Watch “Wings” (1927) on April 21 from 10 a.m. – noon, and “War Horse” (2001) on April 28 from 10 a.m. – noon. Both films will be at the Lifelong Learning Institute at 3424 South University Drive, Davie, FL 33328. World War I and America: For Race and Country: The Life and Career of Colonel Charles Young Learn about one of the first African American officers in the U.S. military, Charles Young, on Sunday, April 23 from 2-3 p.m. in the second floor Cotilla Gallery. World War I and America Exhibit: A Traveling Panel Exhibit on World War I Discover art from WWI from Saturday, April 1 through Sunday, April 23 at the library atrium.
