Anthony's Runway 84

Went here with my girlfriend last night. Made a reservation at 8 and showed up on time. Table was ready. Wait time: 0. As soon as we sat down, the waiter was there with our drink orders which came fast. Informed us of the specials which had a good variety. Do not order appetizers. They serve you a hard crusted bread with an olive oil/cheese flavored concoction that is fabulous. Then you get a dozen large mussels with a garlic sauce. Made perfectly and enough to whet your palate but not fill you up. I ordered the swordfish and my girlfriend the veal in lemon sauce. The fish was a giant chunk cooked medium and was delicious. My friend loved the veal. After dinner, we split a cheesecake that melted in my mouth. Give the food a 9/10. Ditto with the service. The secret here is not to order any pasta only because it is filling and drowns out the quality of the main part of the meal: the meat or fish. This place has a sort of Sopranos/Goodfellas feel to it. You see the usual wise guy wannabes with their Tommy Bahama shirts and gold jewelry sporting their similarly jewelry clad wives or girlfriends. The music is all Sinatra and played probably a bit too loud. In case you had doubts about celebrities not frequenting this joint, there are about 100 pictures of retired athletes and actors posing with the owner. Don't know why but I always enjoyed looking at these kinds of pictures hanging on the wall. All in all a good experience. If you are going to sell ambience and a certain attitude, you had better have the food to back it up. This place turns the trick.
